50-50 CAMPAIGN SUFFERS A BLOW AS KABWIRA QUITS FRONTLINE POLITICS

By Wilson Allan Phiri

One of the country’s political experts George Phiri has asked UTM party to replace Jessie Kabwira’s vacant seat with another female face.

Kabwira who saved as UTM Party National Executive Committee Member has announced she has retired from active politics and has since joined Malawi Institute of Management to purse her professional career.

Commenting on the move, George Phiri described Kabwira’s retirement as a huge blow to efforts of empowering women in politics.

Phiri said, “Kabwira was a devoted servant in defending girls and women’s rights through politics which saw women claiming top leadership positions in the country because of her influence.”

Phiri has since requested UTM Party secretariat to consider replacing her with another woman.

Kabwira is a second influential figure to have left the party after Joseph Chidanti Malunga who was the party’s publicity secretary also joined the Tobacco Commission as its chief.
