LACK OF COORDINATION DERAIL EFFORTS TO REMOVE STREET CONNECTED CHILDREN

By Aamon Butao

Efforts to remove street connected children from the country’s towns and cities are being derailed by lack of coordination between government and stakeholders, a child rights activist has observed.

The comments come against a background of previous plans by government to remove street connected children failing to bear fruits.

At the moment, there is a taskforce set up by government in the latest attempt to execute the long delayed strategy.

According to child rights activist Fred Nyondo, all stakeholders must depart from operating in isolation to ensure street connected children grow up in a safe environment other than the street.

Nyondo said government and line stakeholders should also work towards addressing push factors.
