LAWYER ABANDONS DEFILEMENT SUSPECT

Defense lawyer for Stuart Kalungama, a suspect answering a defilement case, says will no longer represent his client.
The development comes as Chief Resident Magistrate Patrick Chirwa was on Wednesday expected to rule whether Kalungama has a case to answer or not.
Chirwa has since given Kalungama until next Monday to find a new lawyer.
In an interview with Timveni news desk, one of the country’s women rights activists Jessie Kabwira accused the suspect of trying to buy time.
"We have got a young child whose life is hanging in limbo because of what someone did and now they are praying for time for them to be punished," said Kabwira.
Kabwira argued that delaying the case is denying justice for the 9-year-old step daughter.
