LEGISLATOR AWARDS BEST CIVIL SERVANTS

It was a colourful ceremony at Kalesi primary school in Lilongwe on Monday when Member of Parliament for the area Francis Belekanyama awarded 35 best performing civil servants in Msinja South constituency.
The event was part of commemorating Labour Day with Msinja South Constituents and the awardees went away with a certificate and Solar Panel each while the Best school was given 50 desks and the Best clinic received 10 hospital beds.
Speaking in an interview, the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Legislator Belekanyama, said it is important to have the awards because their strength in terms of performance lies with the very people being honoured.
"We know they are facing numerous challenges and motivation like lack of electricity in their houses, trainings just among others but still more they are performing hardly in their respective jobs so we believe this awards will motivate them to do more even others to emulate the gesture."
Civil servants Trade Union secretary general Madalitso Njolomole said the recognition is big boost to the civil servants not only in Msinja South constituency but everywhere hence asking others to emulate.
"As civil servants we can work hard but no any motivation at all and we believe if this happen everywhere not only in this area I believe it can motive more civil servants to do more and more ."
Minister of National unity Timothy Mtambo who was the guest of honour for the event commended Belekanyama for the initiative saying the awards will motivate the awardees and those who did not do well to aim high.
Mtambo added that as government knows challenges civil servants are facing but it is not easy to end their challenges just a day.
One of the awardees, teacher at Kalesi Primary School Stella Phiri, said she was glad that her hard work had paid off.
“I love my job and that is the more reason why I have been awarded for my outstanding performance in 2021/22. Again, motivation is always morale for civil servants,”
Lucy Chama and Jackson Msothe won best Health Surveillance Assistants (HSAs), Khriserbel Kamphanda as best Nurse, Billiat Chatambalala as Best Security Guard, Fatiness James as best Cleaner, Best School goes to Kagwandipenya Primary School, Best Tailor goes to Makiyi Emasoni, Best Teacher Chankhandwe Zone -Stella Phiri just among others.
