MALAWI ECONOMY TO BENEFIT FROM UPLIFTING OF COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS

A Chancellor Collage based economic expert has said Malawi’s economy stands to benefit a lot following South Africa’s easing of its lockdown.

Among other measures, Pretoria is reopening its borders to international travel which Professor Ben Kalua says is vital for recovery of Malawi’s economy.

Speaking to Timveni, Kalua said Malawi will be able to import and export goods with South Africa.

According to Kalua, Malawi has been greatly affected by the Covid-19 restrictions as it relies heavily on South Africa for trade.

Kalua further said local businesses will also be given another lifeline to recover.

South Africa will reopen its borders from October the First to countries with low risk.
