 MALAWIAN CONTRACTORS DESERVE CONTRACTS TOO

The Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative—CDEDI has asked government to consider coming up with deliberate policy to grant contracts to Malawians if it is to achieve the one million jobs creation promise.

This follows reports that the Southern Region Water Board left the lowest Malawian bidder and awarded a multibillion contract to a foreign contractor.

Addressing the media Lilongwe, CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa said that Malawians will be at pains to let this project at a cost of One point Six Billion Kwacha more than the lowest evaluated bidder.

Namiwa also said the contract is being awarded at a time when government is struggling to provide essential services such as drugs in public health facilities.

He has therefore asked the utility body to be in the forefront of promoting indigenous businesses.
