The Malawi Congress Party -MCP is optimistic it will sweep all the constituencies under contest in the forthcoming by-elections in Shire valley and other districts.

The party’s National Deputy Director of Research, Illias Karim, was speaking on Tuesday in Nsanje central at a rally held in the area of Senior Chief Tengani in Nsanje.

In an interview with Timveni, Karim said though the Shire Valley lost its political giant, Late Muhammed Sidik Mia to covid-19, the party will win the election.

He said people from Nsanje Central, North and Chikwawa East respectively are ready to vote for Kafandikhale Mandevana, Enock Chizuzu and Foster Thiphiwa whose constituencies were declared vacant by the High court after the trio challenged the Democratic Progressive Party’s Francis Kasaila and Esther Mcheka Chilenje and Sam Khumbanyiwa of UDF.

Meanwhile, the Malawi Electoral Commission has set March 30 this year as the day it will conduct by-elections in 7 constituencies and two wards.
