MEC READY TO HOLD BY-ELECTIONS COME MARCH

Chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission says the body is prepared to hold by-elections, come 30th March the in 9 constituencies and wards.
Addressing the media in Blantyre on Thursday, Justice Dr Chifundo Kachale said the commission in consultation with electoral stakeholders and the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 received advised not to conduct the polls on separate days in light of threat from Covid-19.
Kachale said MEC is optimistic of delivering credible election and to fulfill set targets in its revised calendar.
The by-elections will take place in 7 constituencies namely Nsanje Central, Nsanje North, Chikwawa East, Ntchisi North, Zomba Changalume, Lilongwe Msinja South and Karonga North-West as well as in Liviridzi ward in Baraka West and Chitakale Ward in Mulanje South.
