MINISTRY TO CRACK DOWN ON CHIEFS INVOLVED IN ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION

By Aamon Butao

The Department of forestry under the ministry of Forestry and Natural resources has issued a stern warning that the law will take its course on any chief found depleting the environment.

Spokesperson in the department Gift Chimulu said this in an interview with Timveni Online following reports that some chiefs have been implicated in the malpractice.

"It is sad to learn that chiefs who are supposed to be in the fore-front in protecting the environment are encouraging communities to destroy natural resources," said Chimulu.

He therefore warned that any chief found on the wrong side of the law, will severely be punished.
