The Minibus Owners Association of Malawi has called off a nationwide strike it called to protest tollgate fees which have come into force this Monday at Chingeni Toll Plaza in Ntcheu district.
MOAM leadership says the decision is meant to give chance to dialogue between minibus owners and government.
Speaking to Timveni news desk this morning, MOAM General Secretary Coaxley Kamange said the association is "optimistic government will address its grievances" .
Earlier talks between the two stakeholders had failed to reach a compromise on the matter.
The lowest tollgate fee per pass is MWK1700 for light vehicles with the highest being MWK 20, 000 for abnormal load type of vehicles.
Disregard of the tollgate fees attracts a one year jail sentence and a MWK 1 Million penalty.
