The ministry of health has warned the general public to be on the lookout for fraudsters who are claiming the ministry is giving out Covid-19 monetary support.
According to secretary of health, Dr Charles Mwansambo, some people are getting notifications that they have received covid-19 money from the ministry a development which has created panic among the citizenry.
"There is no such arrangement on part part of the ministry hence if anyone receives such messages they should report to police," said Mwansambo.
He further appealed to mobile service providers to investigate the syndicate and immediately block the fraudsters’ numbers to prevent them from making any advances.
Meanwhile the Malawi Police Service has said it has intensified efforts to deal with fraud in the country as there is a growing concern.
National police spokesperson James Kadadzera said, "The police have made some arrests in connection to the same and are still tracking people suspected to be the trick stars."
Kadadzera said they are currently working with communities to raise awareness on issues to do with fraud.
