MORE ADOLESCENTS AT RISK OF SUFFERING FROM CERVICAL CANCER

While the whole world observes the Cervical Cancer Awareness Month this January, Cancer Survivors’ Quest says adolescents and the youth are at a high risk of suffering from cervical cancer due to early pregnancies and getting sexually active at a very young age.

The call has been made as the organization has scaled up civic education and awareness campaigns during the observance of the Cervical Cancer Awareness Month.

Speaking to Timveni , Cancer Survivors’ Quest founder and president, Chikhulupiliro Ng’ombe, said a research has revealed that most of the adolescents fall victim to cervical cancer due to lack of information on the disease.

Ng’ombe added that early sexual debuts and early pregnancies puts the youth at a high risk of suffering from cervical cancer.

Ng’ombe therefore says the youth have to go for early screening once they are sexually active in order to deal with cervical cancer in the early stages.
