MRA RAKES IN MWK1. 3 BN IN REVENUES

By Chilungamo Missi
Malawi Revenue Authority -MRA says it has collected MWK1. 3 Billion additional revenue since January this year.
The development follows the introduction of a Block Management System in the cities of Blantyre and Lilongwe.
The Block Management System is a way of collecting tax by assigning an officer to a certain area to conduct MRA services.
MRA Commissioner General, John Bizwick, claims a good number of taxpayers have registered through the system hence enhancing tax compliance in the country.
Bizwick made the remarks over the weekend during a launch of another Block Management System in Mzuzu City.
In his remarks, a representative of the Business Community in Mzuzu City, Wickley Mhango, hailed MRA for introducing the system which he said will strengthen the working relationship with the tax collector’s officers.
