Lack of investment in education sector has been blamed for contributing to lack of reading culture among learners in the country.
Director of operations at World Vision Malawi CharlesChimombo disclosed this during finals of the central region spelling bee competition in Dowa district.
Chimombo said the competition, which had 52 competitors and produced 21 for the national finals, has revealed that government is "not doing enough in promoting reading culture".
"There is need to conduct more competitions to instill a reading culture among learners in the country," said Chimombo.
The national spelling bee is an educational fun activity in which children do compete in spelling out words used in English language with the objective of promoting early reading, improving the reading culture, building vocabulary among others.
