SUICIDE CASES SPIKE IN FIRST QUARTER OF 2023, MEN MOST AFFECTED
NGO-CCR COMMENDS GOVT COMMITMENT ON CHILD PROTECTION

Non-governmental Organisation, NGO -Coalition on Child Rights has expressed satisfaction with the government’s commitment in developing strategies that aim to protect children in the country.
On Thursday president Lazarus Chakwera said his government is developing a Child protection Strategy with a primary focus on prevention, during his address at Pan-African Conference on Violence against Children.
Speaking to Timveni, chairperson for NGO-CCR, Desmond Mhango, said, "The country needs a strong mechanism to address challenges children face including child marriages and rising cases of rape."
According to Mhango the country is heading in the right direction following the commitment from someone in authority.
Mhango further commended the ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social welfare for actively engaging them in the strategy formulation process.
However, Mhango appealed for a speedy process to ensure the implementation of the strategy commences as soon as possible to address cases of rape and defilement currently on increase.
