Youth activists have commended President Lazarus Chakwera for including youths in the newly appointed boards of directors for Parastatal organizations.

According to a statement released on Tuesday evening President Chakwera has appointed board members for Sixty-Seven Parastatal organizations.

Among the members Maness Nkhata is now the new chairperson of the National Youth Council of Malawi, while Dr. Sunduzwayo Madise is chairperson for the Malawi National Council of Sports.

Reacting to the development, Lucky Mbewe said he is pleased that most of the members in the boards were in the forefront in youth activism.

Mbewe said this gives hope that the board members will be able to advice the president on pertinent issues affecting young people and suggest solutions to their problems.

However Mbewe warned the members not to be manipulated by greedy politicians.

Meanwhile, a political and social commentator has expressed optimism that the new appointed board members will deliver beyond people’s expectations.

According to Humphreys Mvula, it will be hard for the board members to be entangled with politicians to serve their interests as they have much to lose.

Mvula explained that the composition of technocrats in the boards will ensure efficiency and transparency.
