 NYCOM LAUNCHES ‘MADOLO OJAKA’ PROJECT

The National Youth Council of Malawi has embarked on a project dubbed Madolo Ojaka which seeks to empower men and boys to combat gender based violence against girls and women.

Speaking in Lilongwe on Thursday, Executive Director for NYCOM Dingiswayo Jere it is paramount to engage the male population as most perpetrators of abuse are men hence solving numerous pressing problems. 

"For far too long, men and boys have been left behind in the fight against gender based violence, child marriages and teen pregnancies," eplained Jere.

Under the campaign, Jere said among others, boys clubs and father groups will be formed and will see men being encouraged not to abandon the responsibility of raising a child.  

In his remarks, Plan International Malawi Communications and Campaign Manager Rodgers Siula said the organization will utilize already existing structures for successful implementation of the Madolo Ojaka campaign. 

NYCOM has partnered with the Ministries of Gender, Justice and Education as well as Plan International Malawi.
