Authorities have pinpointed funding gaps and vandalism as huge setbacks facing Malawi’s energy sector.
Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Energy Patrick Matanda said this when he led a delegation from the Ministry in its interface with the Agriculture and Irrigation, Natural Resources and Climate Change cluster of Parliament.
"It remains the wish of the Ministry to provide reliable electricity to many areas across the country," said Matanda.
Matanda has appealed for support from the cluster to lobby for more resources towards the Energy Ministry to boost power generation.
He disclosed the Ministry has embarked on a strategy shift to rebrand the Malawi Rural Electrification Program in a quest to reach out to as many people as possible with electricity.
In his remarks, Vice Chairpe rson for Agriculture Committee Ulemu Chilapondwa said the cluster will strive to lobby for sufficient resources towards the Ministry.
