The Public Accounts Committee of Parliament has cautioned government to discipline controlling officers in a bid to avoid abuse of public resources.
Chairperson of the committee Shadreck Namalomba disclosed this when presenting a 2018 audit report in Parliament.
According to Namalomba, findings of the committee show that there is systemic disregard of discipline among controlling officers.
He denounced employment procedure in the civil service which he said is marred by political influence.
The Chairperson also questioned failure to put to an audit test parastatals like MERA, MACRA claiming they also fall short of combating corruption.
In this regard, Namalomba urged government to bring sanity in the civil service and ensure recruitment is merit based.
