Save the Children Malawi has called on parents and guardians in the country to invest in future of children.

The organization’s Country Director Kim Koch made the remarks during the launch of a cash project meant to facilitate self reliance among beneficiaries in Mzimba district.

Save the Children in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance through the Financial Access for Rural Markets, Smallholders and Enterprises(FARMSE) has disbursed over Five Hundred and Seventy-One Million Kwacha.

According to Koch the  beneficiaries must use the money in investing in their children’s future by setting up viable businesses to support families.

Koch said parents should take the leading role in ensuring protection and access to education for children and youths.

She underscored that support from parents would enable children to realize their full potential.

The country director challenged the more than four thousand beneficiaries to utilize skills acquired in financial management, sanitation, village savings and loans to be financially stable.

In her remarks, Deputy Director of Pensions and Financial Sector Policy Division in the Ministry of Finance Nancy Mpita urged the beneficiaries to use the money for its intended purpose to eradicate poverty.

To ensure the project uplifts people’s livelihoods, Mpita said government will closely monitor its progress.

FARMSE National Program Coordinator Dixon Ngwende said implementation of the scheme has been impressive and expressed optimism beneficiaries will be in line with governments vision to become financially independent.
