PARLIAMENT BLAMED FOR OVERLOOKING CHILDREN’S WELFARE

The NGO Coalition of Child Rights says discussions with authorities are at an advanced stage for Parliament to consider setting aside a day to deliberate issues affecting the country’s children.
NGO CCR Chairperson Desmond Mhango said this on Tuesday in Salima district on the sidelines of a media training on child rights reporting organized by Timveni Child and Youth Media organization.
Mhango said to a lager extent the National Assembly overlooks children’s welfare.
According to Mhango, issues affecting children and the youths require more time for discussion considering that the challenges faced are numerous.
Mhango said it is high time Parliament started incorporating children and youth issues on its business.
Some time back when the Malawi Congress Party was in opposition, Minister of Agriculture Lobin Lowe, who was then MCP Chief Whip, had proposed that Parliament should dedicated a special day for tackling issues concerning children.
