PLEM IN TROUBLE FOR SUBSTANDARD WORK

By Esther Manduwa
Vice President Saulos Chilima has cracked a whip on PLEM Construction Limited for substandard work on the Chikwawa-Chapananga road and has since ordered the contractor to start all over again.
Chilima issued the directive when he inspected construction work of some road projects in the Lower Shire districts of Nsanje and Chikwawa on Monday.
In an interview with Timveni, the Vice president said he is dismayed that the contractor justified the shoddy work by suggesting that the road normally has less traffic.
According to Chilima, it is better for government to spend more money on the project than to have a sub-standard road.
The contractor has already covered a ten kilometer stretch of the project.
The development follows last week’s revelation that Chapananga Bridge, another work executed by PLEM Construction Limited, is collapsing a year after its launch.
