POLICE ARREST A 33 YEAR OLD MAN FOR DEFILEMENT

The police in Lilongwe are keeping in custody a 33-year old man for allegedly defiling his 11-year old step daughter in 3 different locations within Lilongwe for a 3 year period. 

The suspect has been identified as Phillip Manyozo, who hails from Magombo Village, Traditional Authority Msamala in Balaka District.

It is said that the suspect started sexually victimizing the girl in 2019 while she was 8 years old and used to threaten her that he would kill her if she revealed her ordeal. 

The victim tried to signal to her mother of the situation she was going through, but the mother could not pay attention.

Twice, the mother washed and later burnt beddings of the victim that had blood stains but never probed further on what was happening to the victim.

However, in November 2021 the Standard 6 primary school girl clung to her grandmother who visited that she would not let her go back alone without taking her on board.

While at her grandmother's place, the victim wrote a 3 point emotional letter to the grandmother revealing and narrating what she had been going through at her mother's home for three years.

When the matter was brought to police, the victim was referred to Kamuzu Central Hospital for examination where multiple defilement and other issues connected to the same were confirmed.

The suspect, Phillip Manyozo, is currently on remand at Maula Prison waiting to appear in court to answer defilement charges which contravenes section 138 of the Penal Code.
