POLICE CAUTIONED AGAINST USE OF EXTREME FORCE AMIDST ENFORCEMENT OF NEW RESTRICTIONS

As police have started enforcing Covid-19 rules and regulations codenamed Operation Valani Mask, rights groups have urged the masses to report any forms of abuse.

During the previous enforcement measures, Police officers had faced a lot of criticism for heavy handedness.

Speaking to Timveni, Human Rights Consultative Committee Executive Director Robert Mkwezalamba appealed to the men and women in uniform to "respect human rights whilst ensuring the general public observes strict measures".

Mkwezalamba disclosed to Timveni that rights bodies will be on guard and play oversight role in ensuring Police protect the dignity of people youths inclusive.

He challenged Police to learn from past mistakes arguing the tough stance employed during the second Covid-19 wave was regrettable.
