The Malawi police service says it has tightened security in all flood victims’ camps in order to protect women and children from abuse.
This comes from the background that women and children have been facing all sorts of violence and abuse in camps in previous years.
Speaking to Timveni, national child protection officer at Malawi police service, Esau Kamwendo said the police have empowered community policing personnel by providing them with required materials like whistles to make sure they are efficient.
Kamwendo also added that the police have also placed complaint boxes in all camps where anyone can place his or her complaint anonymously and get help.
