By Meclina Chirwa
Lack of proper water, sanitation and hygiene services is said to be frustrating operations at Bwaila hospital in Lilongwe.
Public relations officer for Lilongwe district health office Richard Mvula said WASH services rendered at the facility do not tally with the number patients accommodated at the hospital.
According to Mvula, strong and concrete interventions to support water, sanitation and hygiene conditions are needed to at Bwaila hospital, which is one of the oldest health facilities.
Apart from the said challenges, the hospital also has to face the reality of providing shelter to patients and guardians from different places.
In light of the present circumstances, Water Aid Malawi has stepped in to render assistance to Bwaila Hospital.
Water Aid Malawi Program Coordinator for Urban and Small Towns Edgar Phiri said the intervention will address some of the challenges that the hospital face regarding WASH.
Authorities at Bwaila Hospital have since hailed Water Aid Malawi for the help.
