PREDATORS CAPITALISE ON GROWING BUSH TO PREY ON MINORS

The child protection desk in the Malawi Police Service has appealed to parents guardians to be on the lookout for suspects who have taken advantage of the rainy season to abuse children.

Police say they have received several cases of violence against children owing to “bushy surroundings which have created fertile ground for perpetrators”.

In an interview with Timveni, deputy national child protection officer Esau Kamwendo has pleaded with parents and guardians to monitor children’s movements as well as not sending children in harm’s way.

To the children, Kamwendo called on them to “walk in groups”.

According to Kamwendo, Police will continue working tirelessly in ensuring that children are protected.

Police have also appealed to communities to clear bushy areas to expose suspects of child abuse.
