 TAXI DRIVER ARRESTED FOR ROBBERY

As Malawians continue falling victims to robbers, the Kawale Police Station has arrested Macdonald Beni, a taxi driver suspected of robbing passengers that boarded his motor vehicle on the evening of 16th August 2022.

According to statistics, the station has recorded a series of robbery and abduction cases alleged to have been committed by criminals who pose as taxi operators and eventually divert and dump the victims to other destinations after robbing their belongings.

The latest two victims were robbed properties worth MWK500, OOO. 

Confirming the development, Public Relations Officer for Kawale Police, Mavuto Phiri, told Timveni that on the stated date, Deborah Kameta and Mirriam Mose boarded a taxi registration BZ627 which was being driven by the suspect from town to Area 23 and the taxi had another passenger already on board suspected to be his accomplice.

“Upon arrival at their destination, the suspect cruised and later stopped at a nearby bush about 8kms away from the intended destination. Fortunately the victims ran away and also captured the registration number of the motor vehicle. However, they left behind their belongings worthy K560,000, “said Phiri.

According to Phiri, the suspect was arrested on 22nd August 2022 while driving the same motor vehicle and both complainants identified the suspect and some stolen items have since been recovered.

Meanwhile police have intensified investigations to arrest his accomplice who is at large.
