TEACHERS RESUME STRIKE: GOVT, TUM FAULTED ON DEADLOCK

By Kenson McCloud

Child rights advocates have condemned resumption of a strike by teachers in public schools as an infringement on rights of the child.

In an interview with Timveni, one the activists Desmond Mhango has faulted duty bearers for "failing to protect children’s right to education."

Mhango emphasised that both sides should take into consideration the needs of the child first.

He observes that the industrial action will disrupt the current academic calendar which is already in shambles.

"The recent MSCE results, which have seen 81,00 students failing, are a wakeup call that education standards are dwindling due to interruptions to the education system,"  noted Mhango.

He has since said child activists will closely monitor the situation and will make official announcement on the next course of action.
