First Lady Monica Chakwera has urged stakeholders to invest in girls’ education in a bid to increase the country’s economic growth.

Madam Chakwera made the remarks on Thursday at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe during Plan International Malawi’s presentation of scholarships worth over Eight Million Kwacha to needy students from higher education.

According to Chakwera, the scholarships will go a long way in shaping the future of beneficiaries as well as transforming communities and the country at large.

She said education is a key to success hence the country should strive to ensure that girls finish primary and secondary education without hustles and even go further to tertiary level.

The First Lady, who is also Plan International Malawi’s ambassador of ending child marriages appealed to the beneficiaries to work extra hard to achieve their goals.

In her remarks, Plan International Malawi Country Director Phoebe Kasoga said her organization is committed to promoting girls’ education in the country.

She said this is the first time Plan International Malawi is supporting tertiary education.

The beneficiaries are ten students including nine females.
