 TEN TO STUDY IN UK UNDER CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIPS

The British government has awarded 10 bright young men and women Chevening Scholarships to study in the United Kingdom for post graduate degrees in different fields.

The Chevening scholarship program, which is funded by London, seeks to promote foreign students with leadership qualities to study at prestigious universities in Britain.

Speaking during the awarding of the scholarship ceremony on Tuesday, acting British Commissioner to Malawi Fiona Ritchie said, "The scholarship grants an opportunity for the youths to get expertise and skills which will have positive impact in their respective fields and communities." 

Ritchie said as the country strives towards building back from the economic challenges its facing including corona pandemic, it is important to have its young people getting exposure to new skills that will help rebuild the nation through such scholarships.

According to Ritchie the Chevening scholarship program has over the years helped to instil a strong sense of pride and responsibility among the scholars who have went on to become respected leaders in society.

"Chevening can be a transformative experience, not just for the scholars, but for their communities and countries as they return and use the benefit of their UK experience to make a positive difference in their chosen field," said Ritchie. 

She then encouraged the 2021/2022 cohort to make the best use of the opportunity that has been granted to them.

In her remarks, Deputy Minister of Education Madalitso Wirima commended the British government for supporting the vision of Malawi 2063 through human capital development.
