TWO NABBED FOR TRAFFICKING SIX GIRLS

Police in conjunction with Plan International Malawi have busted a child trafficking ring in Kasungu district.

The operation has led to the arrest of a Chinese national and a Malawian with Police currently in hot pursuit of two others Chinese suspects.

According to Kasungu Police Station Spokesperson Harry Namwaza, the 6 survivors were promised academic opportunities in Lilongwe city but ended up being sexually exploited.

"The men forced the girls to dance while wearing Chinese costumes. The Chinese men would then capture the girls on video camera and make fun of them," said Namwaza.

The arrests in Lilongwe’s Area 49 on Sunday followed the rescuing of the girls from traffickers last November.

The suspects in custody have been identified as 35-year-old Lihui Huilu from Shanghai province in China and Chikondi Nkhata Kumwenda aged 28 from Yotamu village Traditional Authority Mphomwa in Kasungu district.
