The White Ribbon Alliance says its 10 day awareness campaign on respectful maternity care charter has been successful.

The campaign, which started on 20th April, aimed at utilizing social media to advocate for rights of women and newborns when receiving medical care.

In an interview with Timveni , White Ribbon Alliance executive director Hester Nyasulu said, "We are convinced women will now demand accountability and better services when seeking maternal care.

Nyasulu added that the White Ribbon Alliance also engaged several stakeholders including the Association of the Nurses and Midwives and Association of Malawian Midwives to lobby for respectful maternity care.

Nyasulu has also pledged to sit down with policy makers to develop a "conducive health environment for women and babies".
