A young person living with HIV at Tsoyo Village, Traditional Authority Chauma in Dedza district, Jessie Godfrey, has come out in the open to encourage young people living with HIV in the country to live a positive life and find solutions to the problems they face in the society.
Godfrey has told Timveni that many young people living with HIV are living in denial because of the stigma and discrimination they face in their communities.
She said accepting their HIV status and adhering to drugs are keys to living a healthy life.
Young people living with HIV are a diverse group comprising the youth that differ in age, gender, economic status, educational background and cognitive abilities.
Some have been infected from birth and others at a later stage in life through sexual transmission among others.
HIV can affect young people in different ways including various aspects of their physical, psychological and emotional development.
Godfrey said although stigma and discrimination are the major challenges affecting young people living with HIV, there is a solution to every problem.
Remember that young people living with HIV have the same rights like anyone else. They deserve the best.
