As Chiradzulu West Member of Parliament is expected to table the Termination of Pregnancy Bill on Thursday, a section of youths has thrown its weight behind the piece of legislation.
The youths under the banner Alliance for Youth SRHR argue that the bill will save girls who are among the 141 Thousand that research says procure abortions through the back door annually.
Speaking during a national youth and women conference held in Lilongwe on Wednesday, Prisca Kunsida said "Legislators have a noble task to set things right after endless heated public debate."
According to Kunsida, youths are very optimistic that Lawmakers will debate the bill in line with the wishes of the constituents.
"I'm excited that at long last the Bill has finally made its way on the Order Paper," said Kunsida.
The proposed Termination of Pregnancy Bill wants to add areas for consideration for women to terminate when pregnancy is as a result of incest, sexual abuse as well as if there is deformity of the foetus.
Current abortion law permits termination only if the life of the woman is at risk.
