The African Institute for Corporate Citizenship has tipped legume farmers to be prepared for the 2020/2021 growing season.
Speaking with Timveni AICC’s Project Manager for Legume Development Trust Sangwani Makoko said like other farmers, legume farmers should ensure the fields are ready for planting.
Makoko added that despite fears of Covid-19 impact on the legume industry, last season’s marketing period was successful.
She urged farmers to venture into legume farming against a background of the threat posed by the anti-smoking lobby on Malawi’s major foreign exchange earner, tobacco.
Makoko has also encouraged youths to practice legume farming.
