As the 2020/2021 tree planting season draws closer, Dedza district Council has trained youth leaders from five youth networks in the district on tree planting and regeneration.
The youth leaders are from five Traditional Authorities Tambala, Chauma, Kaphuka, Kamenyagwaza and Kachindamoto.
Speaking to Timveni, Acting District Environmental Officer Dalitso Ndinda said they want to empower the youth to become responsible citizens and own interventions on tree management.
In his remarks Chairperson for T/A Kaphuka youth network Owen Posiyano commended the council for organizing the training.
Posiyano said the training was helpful as it has motivated them to plant more trees this year.
He said youths from Kaphuka will plant not less than eight thousand tree seedlings in the 2020/2021 tree planting season.
